To the earliest impressions of my life belong the drawings and paintings of my mother. She was doing this as a hobby. Our house was full of her paintings. This example made it obvious to me to be busy with drawing and painting. My early drawings were mainly made from my imagination. My decision to paint from reality ensured that I studied painting at the Wackers Art Academy from 1988 to 1993. I expected, that this academy could help me further with this, because craftsmanship and drawing and painting from observation are central at this academy. This expectation has been met and has given me what I was looking for.

As far as subjects are concerned, I have remained true to my academy days. I have always continued to paint figuratively such as portraits and still lifes, especially flower still lifes. I also really enjoy painting sculptures. For me a sculpture exudes peace and serenity. These are sentiments that I like to see reflected in my work. That’s why I like to paint tropical fish, which live in a beautiful colorful world. In my perception it is a silent world full of poetry in which I, as a painter, like to immerse myself.

In recent years my interest in mystics has also grown. This has to do with the existential questions that have occupied me all my life, such as: Why are we in this world? Where do we come from and where are we going? Is there a God? Is there life after death? And what is truth? The mystics I painted have, in my perception, sensible things to say about these questions.

All in all, drawing and painting is still a fascinating adventure for me. I continually discover new things that improve my technique and give me more insight into what makes a painting interesting. In this process, creating a harmonious composition has my special interest.
